• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 16th to 20th September
• Gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, are also expected over Odisha and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 14th and 15th September. Additionally, Gangetic West Bengal is likely to experience similar conditions on 14th September and between 17th and 19th September, while Bihar and Jharkhand may see thunderstorms and lightning from 14th to 18th September. A trough extending from southwest Rajasthan to Jharkhand and an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of Bengal are contributing to these weather patterns.

Impact & Risks

The forecasted thunderstorms and gusty winds could disrupt daily activities and pose risks to outdoor events in the affected regions. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are particularly vulnerable to localised flooding, power outages, and damage to weak structures. Fishermen and small boats in coastal areas may face hazardous conditions due to strong winds.
